NEW DELHI: To oversee the poll management, nomination process, campaign of various candidates and deal with state election commission on various legal issues, Aam Aadmi Party has set up a “war room”, which was launched by the party’s state convener and environment minister Gopal Rai on Thursday. To operate from the party headquarters at Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg, the war room will monitor 10 different activities related to the civic polls. The party has appointed a campaign head for each of the 10 activities apart from deploying seven chiefs on ground for each parliamentary constituency, 14 district in-charge and one each for 250 municipal wards who will relay information about developments in their respective areas to the war room. “The war room will monitor the events of star campaigners, manage the ‘Jan Samvaad’ initiative, listing of speakers and invitations to the public. A central team of 68 lawyers – one for each assembly constituency that falls in the MCD area – is being formed to ensure successful nomination on all 250 wards,” Rai said at the launch. According to party functionaries, the “Jan Samvaad” programme taking place at over 13,000 booths of the city is one of the biggest campaigns being monitored at the room. Since the event takes place at micro-level, it is important to schedule the dialogue properly, preparing the list of speakers on a rotational basis and sending out invitations to the local residents, said a party official. Another important exercise that will be monitored at the war room is filing of nominations. Once the list is announced, there will be a rush to file nominations and the war room will provide all logistical support to the candidates. The lawyers will be in constant touch with candidates and the in-charge at the assembly level to ensure the entire process is completed without any problem. “A team will also be in touch with the state election commission and engage with them to get required permissions for party events. A separate team will plan these corner meetings and rallies and provide necessary help to star campaigners, including chief minister Arvind Kejriwal,” Rai said, adding that the monitoring of social and traditional media campaigns will also take place from the war room.
