NEW DELHI: A 40-year-old BSc computer science graduate was arrested for allegedly blackmailing and harassing a woman. The accused was sending the woman messages and emails and uploading her photographs on Instagram without her consent. He had demanded Rs seven lakh from the woman for deleting the photos. The accused was identified as Anshul Srivastava, a resident of Unnao in Uttar Pradesh. Deputy commissioner of police (southwest) Manoj C said they got a complaint from a woman that a person was continuously harassing and threatening her through emails and messages. He was uploading pictures without her consent on Instagram, WhatsApp and Facebook. “The accused was also defaming the woman by sending her pictures to her friends and family. He demanded Rs seven lakh from the complainant to delete her pictures from social networking sites,” police said, adding that a case was registered. During the inquiry, cops arrested Srivastava from Unnao. “He was acquainted with the sister of the complainant. He fell desperately in love with her and gradually became possessive about her,” police said. Despite no response from the woman, he kept trying to impress her and kept sending e-mails. He used an app to use proxy numbers to call the complainant. He uploaded her photos through social networking sites without her consent and threatened her to pay him Rs seven lakh to remove her pictures. The woman transferred the money to the accused. Later, Srivastava even asked her elder sister to either give him Rs 10 lakh or be engaged with him for his lustful desire if she wanted him to delete her sister’s photos.
