NEW DELHI: Delhi Police’s Special Cell intercepted an arms trafficker on Barapullah flyover and seized a consignment of 10 pistols. The weapons were procured from Madhya Pradesh. Investigation revealed that the accused, identified as Shivam, was supplying weapons to criminals in Delhi-NCR. Shivam is a native of Satna in Madhya Pradesh. Deputy commissioner of police (special cell) Rajiv Ranjan Singh said they were making continuous efforts to cut the supply line of illegal firearms being brought into Delhi-NCR by MP-based weapons manufacturers and suppliers.A team of ACPs Lalit Mohan Negi and Hridaya Bhushan got information that Shivam had procured firearms from one Amit of Rewa in Madhya Pradesh and was on his way to Delhi to deliver the consignment to one of his contacts near Sun Dial Park, under Barapullah flyover.”A trap was laid around Sun Dial Park and Shivam was apprehended. On search, 10 pistols of .32 bore were recovered from his possession and he was booked under Arms Act,” an officer said.Police said that Shivam, after completing his education, started doing petty jobs to earn his livelihood. “Through one of his relatives, he came into contact with a firearms supplier, Amit Yadav, and decided to work for him to earn fast money,” the officer said.Yadav had been supplying illegal weapons for a long time and had many cases of firearms trafficking against him. Special Cell officers were also looking for him in an Arms Act case. “Yadav was also involved in a murder case in Civil Lines in Rewa in 2020,” the officer added. Cops were making efforts to arrest the main supplier in the case.
