NEW DELHI: Many parts of the city faced traffic congestion on roads on Saturday due to the ongoing festive season. Special arrangements were made to manage traffic and ensure minimum inconvenience to commuters on Dhanteras. Commuters reported heavy traffic on some stretches near Najafgarh Road, Chhatarpur Road, Mandawali, areas around Ghazipur, Swami Dayanand Marg towards Anand Vihar, Grand Trunk Road, Yamuna Vihar to Bhajanpura, and several other roads. Many commuters even took to social media and narrated their ordeals along with updates about crawling traffic. Traffic officials were deployed at several locations to regulate the movement. Cranes were also deployed to remove cars parked on the roadside. One of the travellers wrote on Twitter that it took her more than an hour to just cross Akshardham while travelling from central Delhi to Noida. Another person said that heavy traffic was reported from the Laxmi Nagar area to ITO as he travelled from Anand Vihar to Karol Bagh. Delhi Police also took to social media to update commuters in real-time about traffic situations in the city. A senior police officer said, keeping in mind the festival rush, arrangements have been made, especially in markets, malls, vital installations, and crowded places. He said police visibility has also been enhanced through intensified patrolling and deployments of extra pickets. Visitors thronged markets like Sarojini Nagar, Karol Bagh, among others. Police had made announcements to manage crowds. The heavy footfall also led to slow-moving traffic at roads near these markets, and special arrangements were made to regulate traffic, police said.
