NEW DELHI: The Chirag Dilli flyover was thrown open to normal traffic on Wednesday morning, providing relief for commuters. Due to their old and worn out condition, 16 extension joints on the flyover were being replaced.Traffic was open on both carriageways on Wednesday morning, said Public Works Department officials. Earlier, PWD minister Atishi had said that providing relief from traffic jams to the people of Delhi is the government’s top priority. In this direction, PWD has completed maintenance work on the Chirag Dilli flyover ahead of schedule. The minister said that CM Arvind Kejriwal had kept a close watch on maintenance work on the flyover. Under his direction, the work was carried out at twice the speed, she said.”It is a huge relief that the flyover repair work is over and it is now fully open for commuters. A few traffic issues remain in the area but the congestion problems had increased in the last few days due to the work,” said a resident of Greater Kailash.
