NEW DELHI: Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva on Saturday urged the AAP-led Delhi government to reduce tax on diesel in Delhi in order to increase the VAT collection. The Bharatiya Janata Party on Saturday held a meeting with traders in north Delhi’s Alipur and discussed the steps taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led central government to benefit them.Sachdeva appreciated the city’s traders and their hard work to resurrect their businesses after the Covid pandemic. He alleged that Delhi government did little for the trading class and all its promises made to improve markets failed to deliver. No immediate reaction was available from the Aam Aadmi Party regarding this.Sachdeva alleged that the city government gave a “step-motherly” treatment to the businessmen. “In the budget last year, the government promised redevelopment of five big major markets. No action has been taken on that. Sadar Bazar is the biggest market in Asia but in the name of convenience, it has nothing. There are many such markets in Delhi where traders are facing a lot of hardships,” Sachdeva said.Former Bihar deputy CM Sushil Kumar Modi claimed that due to the steps taken by the central government, the business in India had continuously been improving. Quoting the data released by the Union ministry of finance, he said the GST collection in May this year was 12% more in comparison with May 2022.”India has become a favourable investment option for any company today and the reason behind this is the far-reaching thinking of the PM.”
