NEW DELHI: A group of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders met with Delhi Lt Governor V K Saxena on Tuesday to discuss the anti-encroachment drive in Mehrauli. They said that the operation would stop and that the area would be redefined.Baijayant Panda, the BJP’s national vice-president and Delhi unit incharge, met with the LG and reported that the demolition drive in Mehrauli was causing suffering among the locals, as it was based on a survey conducted by the Delhi government’s Revenue department. “The LG has assured that the demolition drive will stop for now and a fresh survey will be conducted fairly,” Panda claimed. An official at the LG office said Saxena heard the grievances of the delegation and assured to look into it. Delhi BJP working president Virendra Sachdeva, MP Ramesh Bidhuri and some residents of Mehrauli were part of the delegation.Sachdeva charged that the Delhi government was to be blamed for the demolition in Mehrauli because of Revenue department’s demarcation and failing to protect the residents in the court. The Delhi government has already directed the District Magistrate (south) for fresh demarcation in the “disputed” area and asked the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) to stop the demolition drive.(With inputs from PTI)
