Following the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, MCD projects the Tricolour on the walls of its headquarters Civic CentreNEW DELHI: Prominent markets in the city have been decked up with colourful lights, balloons and national flags. At some places, the market associations have created selfie points and decorated entrances to mark the country’s 75 years of independence. At Connaught Place, shops have elaborate decor at the entrances, the Tricolour and colourful illumination. “Along with the country’s 75 years of independence, New Delhi Traders’ Association also completes 85 years in 2022. To mark this double landmark, many of the NDTA members are also giving special discounts to shoppers,” said Atul Bhargava, president, NDTA. A 1,500-metre-long band of saffron, white and green colour has been displayed at the central park in Greater Kailash I Market. On Sunday, the market association will deck it with balloons and play patriotic music, said Rajendra Sharda of GK I Market Association. A similar theme has been adopted in Green Park, where a 700m tri-colour band has been installed at the entrance. The Khan Market entrance too has been adorned with colourful balloons and all shops have installed flags outside. “We had also erected a beautiful entrance to the market, but that was removed by NDMC because it said that this was not permissible,” said Sanjiv Mehra, president, Khan Market Traders’ Association. To attract buyers and to celebrate the occasion, traders at Lajpat Nagar will offer discounts to shoppers for a week beginning Monday. “We have distributed flags to all our members. There is special lighting too. We plan to hoist the national flat at the market and the district magistrate and the DCP will join the event on August 15,” said Ashwani Marwah, secretary, Traders’ Association Lajpat Nagar. At Kamla Nagar, the traders have decorated the market with 1,100 flags, banners and posters. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi will also organise an event in the market near Spark Mall. Nitin Gupta, president of Kamla Nagar Traders’ Association, said, “We are thankful to MCD for organising the band performance in the market on August 14 and it will definitely attract many visitors to the market, which is already looking beautiful with colourful decoration.” FOLLOW US ON SOCIAL MEDIAFacebookTwitterInstagramKOO APPYOUTUBE
