NEW DELHI: With bomb threat hoaxes being reported from at least three prominent private schools in the city within a month, a school association has requested the lieutenant governor and the Delhi Police commissioner to depute police personnel or Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) officials outside school premises.Action Committee of Unaided Recognised Private Schools, an association with over 2,000 private schools as its members, said, “The recent bomb threats received by a few private schools of Delhi has ignited cries for the increased safety of children.”Earlier this month, The Indian School in Sadiq Nagar received a bomb threat on email, after receiving a similar mail in November. It was followed by a bomb threat at Amity International School in Saket last Friday and another at Delhi Public School, Mathura Road on Wednesday. All threats turned out to be hoax. According to a letter sent by the association president, Bharat Arora, “This has triggered an alarm and anxiety along with worrisome thoughts among the students, staff and the parental community. Every school places high priority on school safety and is continually working to find new ways to enhance the same through mock safety drills… and other proactive measures for keeping the school premises safe and secure. Unfortunately, this problem is quite broad in scope and any school solution cannot be relied upon completely.” The association feels it is extremely important to eliminate the panic and take necessary precautions and remain vigilant. “Thus, to provide a safe and protected environment for learners and staff, we humbly request to depute Delhi Police personnel or CISF officials outside the school premises. The presence of these officials will not only provide a sense of security and reassurance, but will also act as a deterrent to any potential threat and eliminate the scope of delays in safe evacuation, if needed,” said Arora. The association hopes that the LG and the commissioner will provide the schools full support. “We trust that these valiant officials have the expertise and experience necessary to handle any potential threat that may arise. The committee recognises that the safety of the citizens is of utmost importance to your department, and we hope that you will consider our request earnestly,” added Arora.
