NEW DELHI: Kickstarting the 2022 admission process, Delhi University launched its admission portal on Monday. In the first three weeks, students can register themselves and upload their academic details and required documents. During this phase, the students can also apply for admission in the sports and extracurricular activities quotas. Once the Common University Entrance Test results are declared, the second phase of the admission process will begin in which applicants can select the college and course of their choice. Around 70,000 seats in 67 colleges are available for admissions for what will be a four-year undergraduate programme. There are 79 undergrad courses and 206 BA Programme combinations. By 6pm on Monday, 11,509 students had registered on the portal. Addressing a press conference, DU vice-chancellor Yogesh Singh said, “As it is the first time that admissions are based on CUET performance, we have developed a very flexible system. We hope that the new session can begin by November 1.” As the admission process has been changed from the earlier one based on Class XII marks to the scores obtained in CUET, the process is different for a student to become a part of DU’s Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS). The CUET application number has to be mandatorily submitted while registering. For the sports and ECA categories, applicants need to upload five certificates related to the period from April 1, 2017 and June 30 this year. The registration fee is Rs 250 for general, OBS and EWS students and Rs 100 for SC/ST and persons with disabilities. Only after payment of the fees will the aspirants become a part of CSAS. “We request students to select as many course and college preferences as possible,” said Haneet Gandhi, dean of admissions. “In fact, they can select everything available. However, they will have to confirm their preferences by the last date, else the order of preference at registration will be automatically locked and will form the basis of allocation of course and college.” Students will have to have studied the subjects they opt for in Class XII. For instance, for admission to BA psychology, applicants need to include one language and any two academic subjects they have studied in Class XII and appeared for in CUET too. The fourth subject can be any one from the academic list or non-academic subject list. The non-academic subjects are vocational ones. After the completion of this phase of registration for courses and colleges, the second phase will begin following the publication of CUET results. It is then that the seat allocation process will begin for the various courses.
