NEW DELHI: Welcoming LG VK Saxena’s directions to chief secretary to take into his custody all files related to the renovation of CM Arvind Kejriwal’s official residence and send his report within 15 days, the Delhi BJP on Saturday said the chief minister should leave his “palace” and move to a four-bedroom house.Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva said people of Delhi were happy with the LG’s decision to inquire into the “expenditure of Rs 45 crore on the beautification” of the chief minister’s bungalow.“Two issues need to be investigated—why five smaller tenders were floated instead of one and how many neighbouring plots were merged with the chief minister’s residence to expand it,” Sachdeva asked.Aam Aadmi Party said that it was not the chief minister’s private property and the renovation had been done in a transparent manner.Sachdeva, however, said Kejriwal had promised in 2013 that a four-room house was enough for him if he became a chief minister. “But he is living a luxurious life now. If Arvind Kejriwal has even an iota of morality left, he should leave his grand palace and live in a four-room house as promised in 2013,” Sachdeva said.Addressing a press conference with the leader of the opposition, Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, northeast Delhi MP Manoj Tiwari said the LG’s directions proved that “India still had a constitution and the law was active”.The BJP leaders were also actively sharing on social media the photographs of hoardings put up in different parts of the city alleging that the chief minister wasted taxpayers’ money to renovate his official residence.Aam Aadmi Party, however, said the house BJP was making an issue of was the official residence of the CM and not his private property.“BJP should first tell why Rs 1,500 crore is being spent on Modi ji’s residence? As far as the expenditure on the residence of the chief minister of Delhi is concerned, everything has been done in a transparent manner,” AAP said in a statement.“BJP is trying to rake up a non-issue to divert the attention of people from the failure and dictatorship of the Centre. BJP should first answer what action it was going to take against its MP who is accused of exploiting the women wrestlers. It should also reply to the serious allegations levelled by former governor Satya Pal Malik. The people of the country understand the conspiracies of Modi ji and BJP and will give a befitting reply at the right time,” the party said in a statement.
