GHAZIABAD: A 35-year-old businessman has alleged he was roughed up in a road rage and chased by four men in an Alto, one of whom was wearing a police cap. While an FIR has been filed no arrests have been made so far.In his police complaint, Vikash Chaturvedi, a resident of Signature Residency in Tronica City, alleged the men were inebriated and attacked him near Lal Kuan in the Kotwali area after their Alto collided with his Audi Q7 on January 29 night. The accused allegedly engaged in a fistfight with Chaturvedi and also tried to drag him into their car before smashing a pane of the SUV’s window and tailing him for some distance, the FIR stated. On Friday, Chaturvedi told TOI that he was returning home around 9.30 pm after visiting a friend in Bulandshahr last Sunday when the white-coloured Alto, with registration number U BD2266, hit his SUV from behind.”The collision led to some damage to my SUV. I got down from my car and asked the men to be more careful when two of them came out of the Alto and started abusing me. When I objected they tried to drag me into their car. One of the men seated inside the car and donning a khaki-coloured cap was continuously hurling abuses at me,” he said, adding that it seemed that the accused were drinking alcohol inside the car.Chaturvedi claimed he had managed to return to his SUV and lock it from inside when one of the accused started to pound on the window of the driver’s seat eventually shattering its glass. “As I started my car and tried to speed off because the accused were trying to pull me out of the car, the men, too, started chasing me in their car. They stopped about 100 metres away on spotting a police booth in the Kotwali area. This is when I stopped my car a few metres away and stepped out to take photographs of the Alto. But the men saw me. Scared, I rushed back to my car and started driving with the accused on my tail. After driving for about 4 km, I saw the accused had given up the chase,” he said.ACP-1 Anshu Jain said the FIR has been registered against unknown persons under IPC Sections 279 (rash driving), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 352 (punishment for assault or criminal force otherwise than on grave provocation), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of Rs 50).”A team has been formed to identify the culprits. Currently, we are scanning footage obtained from CCTVs on the route and are trying to trace the Alto owner,” he said.
