GURUGRAM: Five people, including the project in-charge, working on a flyover of the Dwarka Expressway near Harsaru Chowk in Gurugram were allegedly thrashed by a dozen people, led by an angry motorist who had gone back for reinforcements after being stopped from taking the flyover.In his police complaint, foreman Surjeet Singh claimed that they stopped the motorist on Wednesday evening because the flyover “is incomplete”, but he wouldn’t listen. “Our men at the site stopped the Swift being driven by the accused from taking the under-construction flyover and an argument broke out.”The accused left after landing a few blows on the foreman when he intervened but returned with a group of 10-12 people in three cars after some 45 minutes.”They beat up all five of us posted at the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) site with sticks, iron rods, and sharp-edged weapons. Before leaving, the accused also threatened us with dire consequences if we stop people from using the flyover,” Singh said.Project in-charge Nirmal Singh, segment erection manager Sachin Rathi, the foreman and two construction workers – Sanjay and Jaibir Singh – all sustained injuries in the attack, police said. They were rushed to the nearby Umang Hospital by officials of the construction firm for treatment.Based on the complaint, an FIR under sections 147 (rioting), 148 (rioting, being armed with a deadly weapon), 149 (unlawful assembly), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC was lodged at Sector 10 police station.Police on Thursday arrested six men in connection with the assault. The accused have been identified as Dinesh Kumar, Rahul Kumar, Surender Sharma, Manish Kumar, Sameer Sarwan and Naulesh Kumar, all residents of Gurugram.”They were produced in a court and released on bail. During investigation, we came to know that Dinesh Kumar, the prime accused, was also manhandled by some workers, which led to the incident,” said SHO Arvind Kumar. “Further investigation is on.”
