NEW DELHI: Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday accused the Centre of using the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to destabilise governments. “ED has filed 5000 pages of chargesheets during the tenure of the current government. How many people have been sentenced? All the cases filed by ED are fake and they are used to topple governments or form one,” he said, addressing a press conference at his office. “ED does not file cases to eradicate corruption. They do it to buy MLAs and topple governments. ED chargesheets are plain fiction,” he said. The statement came in response to a question after a Delhi court on Thursday took cognisance of a supplementary chargesheet filed by the ED in the Delhi Excise Policy case. Kejriwal also attacked BJP over the “delay” in conducting mayoral polls. “BJP must tell whether they will allow the election to be held or not. Every time the party itself prevents the election from taking place. We want the election to be held. Last time, we all saw that the BJP people were deliberately making a ruckus,” he said. The chief minister said that the BJP should accept the fact that they have lost the civic elections. “When they lose elections in any state, they try to form a government through horse-trading. But in Delhi, BJP is not able to buy councillors. So, they are not allowing the house to function and the election of the mayor to be held,” he said. CM Kejriwal also said that Municipal Corporation of Delhi’s due share has not been given in the Union Budget even as all other civic bodies have received their share. “I want to ask the Central Government what is the reason for their enmity with the people of Delhi,” Kejriwal said on Thursday. “The people of Delhi pay the highest tax in the whole country. Last year, they paid income tax of Rs 1.75 lakh crore and out of that only Rs 325 crore was given to Delhi. Only Rs 325 crore has been given to Delhi every year for the past 20 years,” the chief minister said on Thursday. “There is a saying that the hen that lays the golden egg should not be killed. Delhi in a way lays golden eggs. You can’t do injustice with us like this. The more you invest in Delhi, the more you invest in Delhi’s economy and the more Delhiites will pay taxes,” he added.
