NEW DELHI: Jailed conman Sukesh Chandrashekhar has filed a complaint with the Delhi lieutenant governor (LG) alleging that he paid Rs 10 crore to AAP minister Satyendar Jain within a span of a few months and Rs 12.5 crore to DG (Prisons) Sandeep Goel as “protection money” in prison. The money was paid to Jain through his conduit, one Chaturvedi in Kolkata, he has alleged. Sources in LG House said the letter has been forwarded to the chief secretary for necessary action. Sukesh claimed that he had disclosed all the details of the amount paid to Jain and the DG Prisons to different agencies last month but no action had been initiated. Known Jain since 2015, Sukesh claims in letter to LG Sukesh is being probed by Delhi Police’s economic offences wing, Enforcement Directorate and CBI in different cases. While EOW is probing the case of Rs 200 crore extortion from the Ranbaxy owners’ family and Sukesh’s racket in jail, the ED is investigating a money laundering racket run by him. The CBI is investigating a separate extortion case against him. During interrogation by EOW, Sukesh had mentioned the names of scores of jail staffers, claiming they were on his payroll. The cops recently got sanction from the LG to prosecute 82 jail officials for colluding with Sukesh and receiving regular payments from him in lieu of providing him facilities in jail. The probe is on. In the letter sent to the LG, Sukesh has claimed to have known Jain since 2015 and alleged that he had paid Rs 50 crore in total to AAP as he was promised an important party position in south India and a Rajya Sabha seat. “After my arrest in the ‘two leaves’ symbol case in 2017, I was lodged in Tihar Jail and was visited multiple times by Mr Jain, who held the portfolio of prison. He asked me if I had disclosed anything related to my contribution to AAP to the investigating agency which arrested me,” he added. “In 2019 again, I was visited by Satyendar Jain, his secretary and his close friend, Mr Sushil, in jail. They asked me to pay Rs 2 crore every month to them as protection money to live safely in jail and get basic facilities. Also, he asked me to pay Rs 1.5 crore to DG Prisons Sandeep Goel, who he said was a loyal associate of his. A total amount of Rs 10 crore was extorted from me through constant pressure in two-three months,” says the letter. “As of now, Jain is lodged in Jail-7, Tihar. He has been threatening me through DG Prisons and jail administration, asking me to withdraw the complaint filed in the high court. I have been severely harassed and threatened,” Sukesh has claimed.
