NEW DELHI: Fifty-seven electric vehicles have been deployed at the Delhi airport and in its vicinity to reduce carbon emissions. The move will help in reducing around 1,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions annually. As part of its green transportation programme launched in June, the IGIA operator, Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), is replacing all diesel and petrol vehicles in a phased manner. The first phase includes 64 e-vehicles for airside and landside operations. Out of the 57 EVs, 21 will be used by airside operations, and rescue, firefighting and aeronautical ground lighting teams, while 36 will be for various departments for the landside operations. DIAL has set up 12 charging stations with 22 points across IGIA to facilitate EV charging for passengers, employees and cab service providers. IGIA hopes to become a “net zero carbon emission airport” by 2030. “Packaged with ground support technology and infrastructure, electric mobility presents a viable alternative for reducing vehicular emissions at IGIA,” said DIAL CEO Videh Kumar Jaipuriar.
