NEW DELHI: The 17-kilometre priority stretch of RAPIDX from Sahibabad to Duhai is likely to be commissioned in June this year, but the 14-km Delhi stretch with three stations of Sarai Kale Khan, New Ashok Nagar and Anand Vihar is expected to become operational in early 2025. The fourth station, Jangpura, will come up later as it is being developed along with a stabling yard. When all the three RAPIDX corridors are constructed, an operation control centre will be set up at Jangpura RAPIDX station. Apart from the station, a stabling yard and a warehouse will also be constructed in Jangpura. The entire Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor, which is 82-km-long with 25 stations, is expected to become functional for the public in 2025. However, the Delhi stretch with three stations is likely to be made operational before the inauguration of the full corridor. The section beyond the priority section till Meerut is also in advance stage of construction and likely to be ready as per the scheduled time.”In two years, Delhi and Meerut will be connected with RAPIDX and people will be able to travel the entire west zone of Uttar Pradesh from Delhi in less than an hour,” said an official of National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC), which is executing the project.”The high frequency train travel on regional level will be the first such initiative being implemented in the suburb’s towns of Ghaziabad, Modinagar and Meerut. These areas will be connected to Delhi like never before and will be just like the existing metro system running all around Delhi at present,” said the official.RAPIDX will bring significant change in the connectivity between Delhi and Meerut. “RRTS trains are designed to run at a maximum speed of 180 km/h, making it possible for passengers to travel from Delhi to Meerut in less than an hour. They will also be able to commute in a comfortable and air-conditioned environment,” said another NCRTC official. All the upcoming stations are equipped with modern facilities, such as escalators, lifts and automatic fare collection systems. The trains are designed to be eco-friendly and energy-efficient, using regenerative braking technology that helps to save energy. It is estimated to reduce 2,50,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions per year. The entire Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor is expected to have a daily ridership of around 8 lakh passengers.
