NOIDA: A 35-year-old man allegedly bludgeoned his wife to death with a frying pan in their Sector 66 house on Saturday morning because she apparently refused to cook for him. No one else was at home at the time. Their younger child had gone to their maternal uncle’s house, while the elder one was in school. Anuj Kumar, the accused, has been arrested, police said. Originally from Bihar, Anuj, a rickshaw driver, and his wife, Khushboo (30), had been living in Noida for the past several years. The couple had moved to Shramik Kunj in Sector 66 barely four months ago. Around 11.15am, the police received a call from a neighbour who informed them about the murder. “A team from Phase 3 police station immediately rushed to the spot and found the woman lying in a pool of blood. Her husband was around,” said ACP (central Noida) Abdul Qadir. The man was taken into custody and the woman’s body sent for an autopsy. “During interrogation, Anuj told us that he was getting ready to go to work in the morning. But when he asked his wife to cook for him, she refused. An argument soon broke out between the two. And in a fit of rage, the man picked up a frying pan and smashed it on his wife’s head,” Qadir said. Police said that looking at the wound, it appears that the frying pan was smashed several times on the woman’s head. “The couple was alone at the time of the crime. While the younger child had gone to their maternal uncle’s house, the elder one was in school at the time. We have informed the family members of the woman in Bihar,” said Vijay Kumar, station house officer of Phase 3 police station. “The accused is now in police custody, however, no case has been registered as of now. A case will be registered under Section 302 (murder) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) once the family members give us a written complaint. Further investigation is underway,” Kumar said. Sources in the police said that the accused was an alcoholic and the couple often used to fight over his drinking habit. “Anuj used to beat his wife. However, he was not in an inebriated state at the time of the crime,” the sources said. Police have informed the family members of the woman in Bihar about the murder and said that they are on their way to collect the body.
