New Delhi: A 15-year-old boy died after he allegedly got trapped in a lift shaft at a factory in Bawana on Sunday. Police have registered a case. The victim’s family claimed that the boy was forced to work against their wishes. The victim, identified as Alok, lived with his parents and sister in Metro Vihar. “Both his father and mother are labourers,” an officer said. Police said they got a PCR call at 4pm on Sunday about the incident. A team from the local police station reached the scene.Initial inquiry revealed that the incident took place around 3 pm. The boy was taken to a hospital, where he was declared dead. An officer said the boy was on the second floor of the factory when he got trapped in the shaft. When the lift came up, he was crushed. “He got entangled in the lift wires and died. There was a cut mark on his neck. There is also a possibility of electrocution. We are waiting for the postmortem report. His body was found hanging from the wire,” the officer said. The lift was used to carry goods inside the air-cooler factory. During the initial investigation, an officer stated that they had found negligence and a case had been registered. The boy used to come to the factory with her mother to take care of his younger sister. His family alleged that he was forced to work. Anju, a relative, said a foreman had asked her sister if he would give work to her child; she refused, but he still made him operate the lift. The victim’s family claimed that the boy was 13 years old. Police, however, said they had found documents indicating that he was 15.Another relative, Ajay, said they had to cut the wires to retrieve the child’s body. “His body was crushed and dismembered,” Ajay said. Cops denied this. “We will probe the family’s claims to determine whether the child was forced to work. If yes, then we will add labour Act sections to the case,” the officer said.
