NEW DELHI: Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) has issued summons to Delhi Police after five out of seven Uzbek women who had complained about international trafficking, sexual exploitation and prostitution racket went missing from a private shelter home at Dwarka. Earlier, an FIR had been lodged in the matter. Police said a complaint was received about five women going missing from the shelter home on October 28. A DD entry was made and investigation taken up. “The women were staying in a small 9×9 feet room. There were no CCTV cameras installed at the shelter home. The women were locked from outside at night and only NGO employees had the keys. There were no female employees,” said an officer. The commission had received a complaint stating that the women were brought to India on the pretext of providing them jobs, but when they arrived, they were forced into prostitution and sexual slavery. Some of them were brought to Delhi via Nepal, while some came directly to India on tourist or medical visas. The women alleged that their passports and other documents were snatched away in Nepal before they were brought to Delhi. Those who came directly on tourist or medical visas, their passport and other documents were taken away by the traffickers on arrival in India. “When they resisted being forced into prostitution, they were beaten up. They were threatened they would be jailed. The women were sold to different men during their stay in Delhi and were raped repeatedly,” said DCW. DCW chairperson Swati Maliwal said, “Delhi Police registered an FIR, but all accused persons were not arrested and the girls’ passports were not recovered from the traffickers. I have issued summons to Delhi Police to produce these five girls before the commission, ensure arrest of all traffickers and recover the passports.”
