GURGAON: A woman allegedly ploughed her car into a constable after being asked to stop for a check and kept driving for a few metres with the cop clinging to the bonnet. She eventually slammed the brakes after her car hit another vehicle and the cop was thrown on to the road in the impact.Constable Sandeep Kumar was on duty near the IFFCO Chowk metro station on Saturday morning when he spotted the vehicle being driven by the woman.”Some of us were deployed near the metro station and Galleria market traffic signal for a checking drive. Sandeep had signalled at the vehicle to stop from a distance. But it seems the driver got too confused and crashed into him. He jumped on to the bonnet of the car to save himself, but the driver would not stop,” said Jitender Kumar, the zonal officer. The woman’s car then rammed another vehicle a few metres away and came to a halt. Sandeep suffered a fracture in the right leg.The constable was rushed to a nearby private hospital. The woman, whose car had broken down by then, said she was too nervous after being told to stop and had “accidentally” pressed on to the accelerator instead of slamming the brakes.”We took the injured constable to hospital. He is undergoing treatment for a fracture in the right leg. We are scanning CCTV footage from nearby cameras to get clarity on the sequence of events. Our team visited the hospital to record the constable’s statement, but he was not in a position to talk at length. We will register an FIR only after we get his statement,” said an officer attached to the Sector 29 (DLF) police station. The city, however, is not new to such incidents. On February 7, a man was arrested after his car broke a series of police barricades and crashed into a divider on the Golf Course Road during the wee hours.A day earlier, a man was arrested for ramming his car into police barricades near the 32 milestone of NH-8 and trying to run over cops on duty, including an assistant commissioner of police. In November last year, a 30-year-old homeguard suffered grievous injuries after he was hit by a vehicle that his seniors had tried to stop for a check.
