NEW DELHI: Three youths on a bike snatched an SUV at gunpoint from a man who had stopped at a 24×7 convenience store in the high-security Delhi Cantonment area. The incident, reported early Saturday around 5.20am, took place in front of at least three eyewitnesses. While a case was registered, no one has been arrested. The complainant, Rahul, who was driving the Fortuner, told police he had come to IGI airport from Meerut to drop off a relative of his employer, a businessman. On his way back to Meerut, he stopped at the store near Jharera village in Delhi Cantt. A 2.11-minute video clip of the carjacking, recorded by the CCTV outside the store, was widely shared on social media. It shows three people – a man, a cab driver and a woman – standing outside the shop. A white SUV, being driven by Rahul, is seen pulling up. At that point, the three accused – two of them wearing masks – also arrive at the spot on a motorcycle. Carjacking: Cops probe personal enmity angle One of them, seen wearing a red jacket, casually walks up towards the store. As soon as Rahul steps out of his SUV, the suspect accosts and threatens him, points a pistol at him and is soon joined by one of his aides, who is also carrying a firearm. The third accused, meanwhile, is seen waiting on the bike. CCTV footage shows one of the bystanders — the cabbie — leaving the spot hurriedly with his vehicle and the other two watching the incident unfold. The three accused then get into the SUV and flee. Police said they are checking whether the accused also fired before taking the car. “Apart from the carjacking, we are also probing whether there was any personal enmity or a business dispute. We suspect that the accused were following the SUV for a long time,” an officer said. Cops have sought help from people and also set aside a reward for any information related to the suspects.
