Meenu Rana, who lives in Aster-2 located next to the twin towers, watches nervously as the towers fall; other residents celebrate after the demolitionNOIDA: Minutes after the twin towers had been demolished and the dust had settled, around 100 residents of Emerald Court gathered at Parsvnath Prestige society and matched steps to the beats of drums and dhols – their celebration marking the end of a decade-long legal battle. As they applied gulal to each other, the residents chanted “Banke Bihari Lal Ki Jai” and shared emotional videos of watching the towers come down on TV. Now, they have a victory party in mind. “Earlier, we were a bit apprehensive about the demolition of such tall structures. Now, we are celebrating the demolition as Diwali and Dussehra. These two towers were like Ravana and Kumbhakarna, and they we have burnt,” said Mamta Agarwal, a resident of Aspire 4, as she danced in jubilation and distributed sweets. There were some residents who had booked flats in one of the twin towers. They, too, were elated with the demolition. “We had booked an apartment in the twin towers and paid Rs 30 lakh as advance, for which we took a loan from the bank. But the property became disputed after some residents moved court. Our money got stuck and we are yet to get any refund. We have been declared defaulters by the bank, while we continue to live on rent. But we are happy that the two towers were demolished and hope to get our money back soon,” said Ekta Gupta, a resident of Emerald Court Bluestone. With prayers on lips, some residents watched the demolition on TV in their hotel rooms. Meenu Rana, a resident of Aster 2, said, “I was in a hotel very far from our sector as I did not want to hear the sound of demolition. It would have been very stressful. After the safe demolition, I thanked God for saving our society. Now I am very restless as I want to see the super balcony view from my flat. We are planning to throw a party after things get better.” Indrajeet Kaur, also a resident of Aster 2, said, “It was a great show to witness for which we fought so long. I no longer have to close my balconies. From now, I can do more gardening.” The Parsvnath Prestige RWA had made elaborate arrangements for its visitors – the residents of Emerald Court and ATS Village. Jaya Sharma, a resident of Parsvnath Prestige, said, “Our RWA has made arrangements for 100 people in the clubhouse. We arranged for breakfast, lunch and evening snacks. We made all the residents feel at home.” FOLLOW US ON SOCIAL MEDIAFacebookTwitterInstagramKOO APPYOUTUBE
