NEW DELHI: A 26-year-old man was beaten up and stabbed to death in west Delhi’s Nangloi area on Tuesday night, allegedly by a group of men, following an argument. The victim, Sahil Malik, was attacked just an hour after his elder brother Vishal was involved in a scuffle with the suspects after their RTV hit his motorcycle. Three people — Sunny Kashyap (23), who allegedly knifed Sahil, Sumit (21) and Ram Prakash, the driver — have been arrested so far and a search is on for four more suspects, cops said. Sahil worked as a service adviser at an automobile showroom in Udyog Nagar and lived with his family in Nangloi’s Kavita Colony area.Police said around 6.30pm Tuesday, Vishal was returning from a gym when an RTV, which was carrying the accused, touched his bike. “It led to an altercation with the driver and his associates,” said deputy commissioner of police (outer) Harendra K Singh.Singh said Vishal somehow escaped, leaving his damaged bike at the spot, and reached Nangloi police station, where he called Sahil and his father Shakil. After they reached, Sahil, his friend and colleague Amanul (25) and Nadim, a relative, went to the spot to retrieve the bike.According to Amanul, Sahil took a video of the damaged bike and was about to leave when “eight to nine men came”.“One of the men (later identified as Kashyap) told Sahil that his brother had thrashed him and that they were going to get revenge. As the others grabbed Sahil’s hands, Kashyap took out a knife and stabbed him multiple times. I took a brick and threw it at the men, after which they fled,” Amanul said.According to Amanul, Sahil started running after getting stabbed and collapsed on the road. He asked several passersby for help but no one paid any heed, said Amanul. A video of the incident was widely shared on social media.Later, a scooty rider took the trio to the hospital, where Sahil succumbed to his injuries.Police said they received a PCR call about the incident around 8.10pm. On the basis of Amanul’s complaint, a case was registered under sections 302 (murder) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of IPC at Nangloi police station.Sahil’s family and neighbours later held protests against the killing, which took place just 100 metres from Nangloi police station. Sahil’s father Shakil alleged that cops did not respond to the situation properly.“When we reached the police station, we asked a cop to come with us to the spot to get our damaged bike, but he told us to go and get it ourselves. If the cops had gone with my son, they may not have attacked him,” Shakil said. He also alleged that the accused had tried to run over Vishal after hitting his bike.Amanul also claimed that when he and Sahil responded to Vishal’s call and arrived at the police station, “we were told by a policeman to bring the bike”.An officer said that an inquiry under the additional DCP has been started against the allegation made by the family members.Another officer said that the cops had taken proper action in the incident, and as soon as the complainant came to the police station, they began registering his complaint. On Wednesday, there were blood stains on the road where the incident happened. A few broken bricks were also lying at the spot.
