NEW DELHI: The railways has allocated a budget of Rs 2,477 crore for Delhi, which will be used for development of infrastructure at premises of different stations, Union minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Friday. This will transform the mobility of Delhi completely in two to three years, he said at a press interaction.”If we compare from the time of 2009 to 2014, the allocation has been increased over 26 times…Facilities like underpasses, flyovers, foot overbridges and elevated corridors will be created in Delhi,” he said.Elaborating on the budget, a senior official of Northern Railway said that the allocation would expedite several infrastructure projects, including redevelopment of New Delhi Railway Station.The number of trains arriving at the railway station from Anand Vihar side has increased, another official said. “Due to this, trains are often delayed. To solve this problem, an additional rail line has been laid between New Delhi and Tilak Bridge,” he added.Along with this, 9.7-km third and fourth lines are being laid between Tilak Bridge and Anand Vihar Terminal at a cost of Rs 586.3 crore. “To speed up this work, Rs 45 crore has been allocated in the budget,” he said.Four railway stations in the city- New Delhi, Delhi Cantt, Bijwasan, Safdarjung – will go for a major revamp on the lines of modern airport terminals. These stations will have lobby, concourse, spacious roof plaza, food court, waiting lounge, play area for children, parking, segregation of departure and arrival similar to airports among other facilities, said a senior official.
