LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh government allocated Rs 1,306 crore for Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS (Regional Rapid Transit System) corridor in the state budget 2023-24, presented on Wednesday. Earlier this month, the Union government had allocated Rs 3,596 crore for the 82km-long stretch which has a 70km-long elevated track and 12km underground.Till date, over Rs 12,000 crore has been spent on the project to construct the 17km-long priority section between Sahibabad and Duhai which is expected to be commissioned by June 2023 by NCRTC (National Capital Region Transport Corporation Ltd.).The entire corridor is expected to be completed by 2025 with a total expenditure of Rs 30,274 crore ($ 4 billion). Once commissioned, around 8 lakh commuters will travel daily with RRTS. There will be 24 stations in the entire corridor, of which, 13 stations will be in Meerut for the local transit services (Meerut Metro).According to an official source, the project is being funded by the Asian Development Bank which has sanctioned a one-billion-dollar loan, while the New Development Bank and Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank will extend a $500 million dollar loan each.The government of India (GOI) will contribute 20 per cent of the total cost of the project while the UP government will fund 16.78 per cent and Delhi government will pay 3.22 per cent.In UP, RRTS will cover 68km with an 8km underground section, while Delhi will have a total 14k- long section with 4km underground track.
