GURGAON: Commuting from NH-8 to Southern Peripheral Road via a 5km stretch is nothing but a nightmare for the residents of the new sectors in the area. This is because the crucial road linking the new sec – tors with other parts of the city is broken in some spots and riddled with potholes in others. Repeated complaints to the civic authorities over the past three years have only fallen on deaf ears, the residents alleged. Krishan Pratap Singh, a resident of Palm Hills, said, “More than 1,500 families living in the society are having a tough time while commuting on this stretch on a daily basis. This is the main connecting sector road to our society that’s riddled with potholes.” “The stretch also poses a serious risk to motorists, particularly bikers. Since the road is frequented by heavy commercial vehicles to avoid paying the toll, we have often witnessed traffic congestion on this stretch,” he said. Rao Dharamveer Singh, RWA president of Mapsko Casabella, a housing society in Sector 83, said that no major repair work has been carried out by the authorities concerned for a long time. “We haven’t witnessed any major road repair work or recarpeting of this stretch in the past three years. Moreover, broken roads and traffic congestion are adversely affecting the air quality and it is high time the authorities paid attention towards our grievances,” he added. Arun Dhankar, superintending engineer of GMDA, said, “We have already taken up road repair work across the city and will carry out potholefilling work aggressively in the remaining days of this month. On this particular stretch, I will direct officials to look into the problems and do the needful.”
