GURGAON: A tennis coach, a javelin thrower and a toll plaza staffer – who were removed from a WhatsApp group for posting abusive comments – allegedly assaulted the admin and fired at him in a Pataudi village last week. They were arrested after the victim’s family lodged a police complaint.Police said Rajkamal had created the WhatsApp group a few months ago and added around 100 pet owners as members. The group would often organise illegal dog fights and share information on diets for the animals, according to the cops. Ferocious breeds and ways to make dogs more aggressive would often be discussed among the members of the group.ACP (crime) Preet Pal Sangwan said the three arrested accused were identified as Anand Kumar, who teaches tennis at an academy in Noida, Hitesh, a javelin thrower, and Bhupender, who works at a toll plaza.Trouble started when Anand’s dog died during one such fight between the animals. When one of the members posted a comment about Anand’s dog in the WhatsApp group, it led to an angry exchange. Anand and the two others hurled abuses at the members and were eventually removed from the group by Rajkamal.On Sunday, Rajkamal was on his way to Baspadamka village in Pataudi when the three confronted him, the police said. Anand allegedly grabbed Rajkamal from behind while Bhupender rained blows on him. Hitesh whipped out a gun and fired at him, the cops said.The bullet scraped past Rajkamal’s stomach and Bhupender’s arm. While Rajkamal is undergoing treatment at a hospital, Bhupender was recuperating at home.The three were booked under IPC Section 307 (attempt to murder) and provisions of the Arms Act after Rajkamal’s family lodged a complaint at Pataudi police station. They alleged that Anand had threatened to kill Rajkamal after being removed from the group.While Hitesh and Anand were arrested from Palwal on Tuesday, Bhupender was picked up from Sector 10 on Thursday. “During investigation, we found that many members of the WhatsApp group were involved in organising illegal dog fights,” Sangwan said.
