In a video, Tikait claimed that he was going to Jantar Mantar to participate in a protest related to unemployment. His vehicle was stopped at the Ghazipur border. Later, he was taken to Madhu Vihar police station. However, the farmer leader claimed through a tweet that he was “arrested”. “Delhi Police working at the behest of the government cannot suppress the voice of farmers. This arrest will bring in a new revolution. This struggle will continue till the last breath,” he tweeted in Hindi along with his photographs inside the police station. A senior officer said he was asked where he was going and let off. Meanwhile, Delhi Police has enhanced security arrangements in the city ahead of the mahapanchayat called by farmers at Jantar Mantar on Monday. Cemented barricades have been placed and deployment increased at the borders. DCP (Outer) Sameer Sharma said, “SKM and other farmers’ groups are going to organise a mahapanchayat at Jantar Mantar on Monday. They will pass through the jurisdiction of Outer district. Adequate deployment of local police and outside forces will be made at Tikri border, major intersections, along railway tracks and Metro stations to avoid any untoward incident. Foolproof law and order arrangements have been made in this regard.” Another officer said security had been increased at other borders, including Ghazipur, Singhu and Jharoda Kalan. “All vehicles are being checked while entering the city. We have asked police personnel to be on alert,” added the officer. DCP (New Delhi) Amrutha Guguloth said they had not granted any permission to hold the mahapanchayat at Jantar Mantar. “The request for the mahapanchayat was denied,” she added.
