NOIDA: A 40-year-old man who had stopped his motorcycle by the side of a road to take a phone call was shot at by a resident of the house right next to the spot in Sihani Gate area of the city on Tuesday evening. The resident asked the biker not to stand in front of the house and flew into rage when the biker replied that he just wanted to talk on the phone. Angered, the resident went inside his house, picked up a gun and allegedly shot the biker from his balcony. Nirdesh Sharma, who works at a private firm and lives in Radhakunj area of Ghaziabad, was hit by the bullet on his arm and is being treated at a hospital in the city. His condition is stable, police said. The alleged shooter, Amit Bhati, is on the run. Girish Sharma, the biker’s brother, told TOI on Wednesday that Nirdesh was on his way to buy vegetables around 6.30pm on Tuesday. Soon after he left, Girish got a call from Nirdesh, who told him someone had shot him just 500 metres away from their house. “I rushed to the spot and saw Nirdesh lying on the road, bleeding. We quickly left for a hospital and informed the police,” Girish said. On the way to the hospital, Girish said Nirdesh told him that Bhati had objected when he had stopped outside his house to take a call. “My brother told him he was just talking on the phone. Within no time, the resident told Nirdesh to move aside and threatened to kill him if he didn’t. The resident then went inside his house on the first floor, took his gun and shot at Nirdesh from the balcony,” Girish said. Police said they got to know about the incident around 6.35pm. The preliminary investigation has found that the accused suffered from drug addiction and was recently getting treatment at a rehabilitation centre. “We have received a complaint in connection with the incident and a case has been filed. Bhati’s family members, who were at home when he fired the bullet, are being questioned. He is on a run and teams have been formed to nab him. We are trying to figure out all his possible hideouts. Bhati will be arrested soon,” said Naresh Kumar Sharma, SHO at the Sihani Gate police station. Bhati has been booked under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the IPC.
