NOIDA: Most of the societies in Noida and Greater Noida don’t have feeding points for stray dogs, with only a handful of them having designated some areas outside the gated complexes to limit any chances of conflict. These feeding points, seen as a solution to stray dogs entering and roaming around societies for food, were supposed to be created jointly with AOAs/RWAs at points away from human movement and children’s playing areas. The norms by the Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) is meant to ensure that the dogs can eat without being disturbed and the residents can go about their lives without being afraid. On Tuesday, a day after a toddler was allegedly attacked by stray dogs and died of his injuries, residents said the civic authorities have been of little help in setting up feeding points. “We have no feeding points in Greater Noida, neither outside the societies nor within the sectors. The Authority should designate feeding points and the RWAs can join hands,” said Manish Kumar, who lives in Eco-Village 1. But the authorities said they can only help once the RWAs make the first move. “If society’s RWAs and AOAs come forward, we will definitely help them in making the feeding points. But none of them have till now. We had told them a few months back that they have to decide the areas and we will support them,” said Indu Prakash Singh, officer on special duty, Noida Authority. Salil Yadav, general manager of the Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA), said: “It is not our responsibility to make feeding points but we monitor it. We will help sort out any conflict or confusion about the rules related to feeding points.” Though there is no official figure, some residential complexes in the two cities said they had assigned some areas as feeding points on their own. “We had made around 19 feeding points outside our society last year. The feeding points, made of cement, were set up by the RWA,” said Joginder Singh, who lives in Amrapali Zodiac in Sector 120. Singh added that he knows of the Prateek Laurel society in his sector that also has feeding points for dogs. The Noida Federation of Apartment Owners Associations (NOFAA) too alleged that the civic authority hadn’t played any role in setting up the feeding points.
