NEW DELHI: Sahil Gehlot, his father, Virender, and four others arrested in connection with the murder of Nikki Yadav had planned to dispose of her body in a way to make it look like she had died in an accident. Police said on Monday that the six accused had multiple options on the body’s disposal that they planned for after Sahil’s wedding.A police investigator said, “During questioning, Sahil said that they first thought of getting a truck or a similarly heavy vehicle to run over the body so that it looked like it had been in a motor accident. They also thought they could dump the body in a canal or a field somewhere in Haryana after disfiguring it. However, they could not do much that day because they were under pressure with people beginning to talk about Sahil being missing on his wedding day.”Sahil, 24, murdered Nikki on February 10, his wedding day, and then got engaged in the post-marriage rituals. He also had to accompany the woman he had married to her house for more rituals, giving the six men no time to carry out their disposal plans. The cops said Sahil exhibited no remorse for his crime and claimed he had no option but to take the extreme step. “He claimed his father was aware of his relationship with Nikki and had threatened to kill himself if he did not marry the woman he had fixed his marriage with,” said a police source. “Nikki was against the marriage because the two had already got married. She learnt about the wedding from Sahil’s cousins with whom she was in touch.”Apart from Sahil, whose police custody has been extended by two days, the other five have been remanded in judicial custody. “Police said that during the two days in custody, Sahil would be confronted with the two individuals who are witnesses to his wedding with Nikki. They were not friends, but stock witnesses. Confronting them is important to ascertain how they were approached and the monetary transaction involved in the matter,” the source said.Police said the rental agreement for the house in Bindapur where Sahil lived with Nikki had Sahil’s signature. The murder accused will be taken to the house to crosscheck facts and for identification by the house owner too.
