NOIDA: A seven-year-old girl, the daughter of a migrant construction worker, died on Friday afternoon after being buried alive under a mould of soil at an under-construction house in Noida’s Sector 31. Police on Saturday arrested the house owner and the private contractor, after a preliminary probe revealed that safety norms were not followed at the construction site. Manorama, the daughter of Chandrashekhar, was walking across the basement of the under-construction house when the tragedy occurred around 3pm, police said. Originally from Jalaun district, the family has been staying at the site for the past one month. “The girl was rushed to the hospital by the family members. However, she was declared dead on arrival by doctors,” ACP (Noida) Rajneesh Verma said. After an autopsy, the girl’s body was handed over to the family. On a complaint from the girl’s father, an FIR has been lodged at the sector 20 police station against the accused under IPC Section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) on Friday. The accused have been identified as Rajesh Arora, the house owner who resides in Block C of Sector 36, and contractor Jairam Shah, a resident of the Badalpur area. Arora is a businessman who runs a factory in Sector 10. “At any construction site, if digging work is under way, the place needs to be cordoned off which was not done at this particular site. Both of them have been arrested,” said Manoj Kumar, SHO of Sector 20 police station.
