NEW DELHI: A day after the Supreme Court ordered against the presiding officer’s decision to allow nominated members vote in the mayoral poll in MCD House, chief minister Arvind Kejriwal alleged that LG VK Saxena tried to influence the judicial process by forcing the Delhi government to appoint a particular advocate to defend the case.Addressing a press conference, Kejriwal alleged that petitioner Shelly Oberoi, the AAP’s mayoral candidate, had made the LG and the Delhi government two separate parties in the case since both had contradictory views. He further said that deputy CM Manish Sisodia asked the urban development department to engage Gautam Narayan in the case. On the other hand, the LG wrote to the UD department on the night of February 9 to engage Tushar Mehta, who was also representing the LG, to defend the Delhi government, Kejriwal alleged.”The LG tried to hide the truth from coming out in the Supreme Court… This must be for the first time that the two opposing parties were having the same lawyer,” Kejriwal said.Delhi LG should resign immediately from his post: Raghav Chaddha over Supreme Court’s Verdict on MCD polls”The LG not only asked the UD department to take the services of the same lawyer but also asked it to defend the petition on his behalf. He also said that a counter affidavit be submitted”. the chief minister added. No immediate reaction was available from LG’s office.Kejriwal said he spoke to several lawyers who said that the LG’s move amounts to “interference in the administration of justice”.”LG of Delhi has committed a criminal contempt of court. I have written a letter to the LG urging him not to try to run Delhi and interfere in its working by force. He is sitting on a high constitutional post and his responsibility should be to ensure justice,” Kejriwal said.Oberoi had moved the SC alleging that the LG-appointed presiding officer Satya Sharma was trying to make aldermen or nominated members vote in the election of mayor, deputy mayor and six members to the standing committee, which was unconstitutional.
