NOIDA: A resident of Gaur City 16th Avenue in Greater Noida West allegedly attacked a Golden Retriever, which had wandered out from the flat of his neighbour, with a stick on Friday, leaving the dog with serious injuries on its head and jaw. An FIR was filed against him under IPC sections of animal cruelty and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act at the Bisrakh police station on Saturday. The dog’s owner and complainant, Rajat Gubrele, who lives in Tower B of the society, said that his dog, Monk, had stepped out of the flat on Friday morning after finding the main door open. “My 15-month-old dog went and sat outside the flat, owned by Gaurav Sharma. He came out and attacked my dog three-four times with a stick,” Gubrele said. He added that his dog then ran to the seventh floor of the building, where he got water and biscuits from a resident. “That resident put the picture of my injured dog in the society WhatsApp group from where we found out about the entire incident. Monk has injuries on his head and jaw. He was bleeding heavily from his mouth till last night but is better now,” Gubrele, who is in the real estate business, said. He also alleged that when he went to talk with Sharma, Sharma misbehaved with him and used a rude tone. “The matter would not have escalated, but Sharma’s behaviour was rude. No one gives anyone the right to hit an animal,” Guebrele said. A video of the incident is now making rounds on social media. It shows a dog peering through a door, which opens suddenly and out comes a man with a long stick. Frightened, the dog backs up a few steps and waits at some distance from him. The agitated man then threateningly raises his stick and appears to hit the dog on the head. The dog soon scurries away, out of frame. The video ends as a woman appears behind the man. “A case has been registered under section 429 (killing or maiming an animal) and 504 (criminal intimidation) of IPC and Section 11 (treating animals cruelly) of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. Further investigation in the case is underway,” Umesh Bahadur, station house officer, Bisrakh police station said.
