NEW DELHI: Following the success of Waste-to-Wonder Park at Sarai Kale Khan, Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Wednesday laid the foundation stone of its Phase II, which will be themed on dinosaurs.Being developed on 3.5 acres within the main complex, it will have 15 movable and standing structures of dinosaurs made out of 250 tonnes of scrap materials, and will have a common entry, said an official. “Phase I highlights the concept of ‘waste to wealth’ through the replicas of Seven Wonders of the World made from waste and scrap, and MCD will carry forward the concept in phase II,” he added. The new area, the foundation stone for which was laid by lieutenant governor VK Saxena on Wednesday, will have structures of dinosaurs such as coelophysis, brontosaurus, velociraptor, tsintaosaurus, deinosuchus, deinonychus, rajasaurus, prenocephale, ankylosaurus, triceratops, amargasaurus, spinosaurus, tyrannosaurus, diplodocus and stegosaurus.“We will re-define the route for visiting the whole complex in such a manner that the visitors can cover the wonders of the world and then enter the dinosaur park. The ticket price will go up, but the entry will be the same for the entire complex,” said the official. The park will cost Rs 13.7 crore and MCD targets to complete it in six months after awarding the project. The park will also be illuminated by ornamental lighting and have aesthetic sound to make it more attractive, said officials. “The landscaping will be done by planting trees, shrubs, grass and ornamental plants. It will have sitting facilities, connecting the walkway to all sculptures, garden huts and a food court for the visitors,” said the official. The civic body aims to develop a parking facility and install solar panels to make the park energy-efficient after the work for Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) is completed. “A portion of the site near the entrance is occupied for the RRTS work. As soon as the work is completed, a parking project can be taken up,” said the official, adding that a patch of Delhi Development Authority land next to the park may also be considered for the project.During the event, the LG also flagged off four tree-pruning hydraulic lift machines for MCD. With the help of hydraulic buckets fitted to these machines, workers will be able to prune big trees in a safe and easy way, said officials.
