Delhi News Highlights, October 20: The Supreme Court Thursday declined an urgent hearing of a petition seeking the removal of complete ban on firecrackers in Delhi, stating “let the people of Delhi breathe clean air”. The petition was filed by BJP MP Manoj Tiwari.
Inaugurating MCD’s Tehkhand Waste to Energy Plant in Tughlakabad, Union Minister Amit Shah said Delhi residents have to decide if they want to be AAP nirbhar or Atmanirbhar in the next MCD polls. He said AAP wants to make Delhi AAP-nirbhar, adding that Arvind Kejriwal hold press conferences everyday to misguide people. He said there will be 100 per cent processing of daily waste in Delhi by 2025 and plans to make the national capital will be ready by by the time BJP comes to power in MCD.
Meanwhile, the Delhi Government on Thursday issued a notification lifting fine of Rs 500 for not wearing face masks in public places. The district administrations across Delhi had stopped imposing challans for npot wearing masks from October 1. Witnessing a sharp decline in Covid cases, the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) in its last Covid review meeting had decided to discontinue the fine.
In other news, Delhi HC on Thursday refused to entertain plea challenging a September order of the Delhi Pollution Control Board imposing a complete ban on manufacturing, sale, and bursting of fire crackers in the city till January 1,2023. The HC said that as there is a similar petition pending before the SC on the same issue, therefore it is not appropriate for the HC to entertain it. The plea was moved by a company manufacturing green fire crackers, claiming that a last-minute ban imposed on the sale and use of green crackers affects the livelihood of the Petitioners and other similarly placed sellers.
