DSP Singh, originally a resident of Hisar district but posted in Tauru, was run over by a dumper carrying illegally mined stones near Pachgaon village in the Aravalis on July 19. He had just intercepted the dumper when the driver pressed on the accelerator and mowed Singh down. So far, 12 persons, including the dumper driver, have been arrested in connection with the case. According to a government notification issued on Thursday, the commission will be headed by Justice LN Mittal, a retired judge of the Punjab and Haryana high court, and will look into the circumstances leading to the death of the DSP. The commission will also suggest deterrent measures to prevent reoccurrence of such incidents and curb illegal mining in the Aravalis in the future. A Supreme Court order of 2009 bars any kind of mining in the Aravalis, but the practice continues unabated. “The commission shall complete the inquiry and submit its report to the state government within a period of one month from the date of publication of this notification in the official gazette or such extended period, as approved by the chief minister from time to time,” read the notification. According to police, DSP Singh was out on patrol on July 19 when he got a tip-off about illegal mining near Pachgaon village and rushed to the spot. On spotting the cops, the group of miners tried to speed away with the quarried stones in the dumper. The senior cop was mowed down by the heavy vehicle. Dumper owner Arshad, his brother and driver Shabbir, and cleaner Ikrar were among the 12 arrested. Currently, five of them are out on bail. On July 21, the Haryana government announced a judicial inquiry into the killing and the extent of mining in the Aravalis. Around 700 cops were put into action and they carried out door-to-door checks to identify people involved in illegal mining in the area FOLLOW US ON SOCIAL MEDIAFacebookTwitterInstagramKOO APPYOUTUBE
