NEW DELHI: A 19-year-old girl has been apprehended for allegedly making fake Instagram profiles and sending obscene pictures and messages to her friend’s sister and relatives, police said on Tuesday. The incriminating evidence, including a mobile phone and SIM cards used in the crime, have been recovered, they said, adding the accused has been identified as Saniya, who is a second-year BA student at Delhi University’s School of Open Learning.Deputy commissioner of police (north) Sagar Singh Kalsi said they received a complaint from a resident of Inderlok, alleging that someone morphed her pictures. The accused created obscene and nude pictures of her and her brother and posted them on social media platforms using fake IDs, the complainant said.A case was registered and a team led by SHO (Cyber Cell) Pawan Tomar started an investigation into the matter.”Details of the Instagram profiles, including IP addresses and mobile numbers used for registration, were obtained. Further details of these IP addresses were also obtained from the telecom service operators,” the DCP said. During the inquiry, police found that the number used for making fake IDs was registered in the name of Saniya’s mother. “When her mother was questioned, she told us that her daughter was using it. The 19-year-old was later apprehended,” police said. She told police that she was good friends with a boy, who is her neighbour. However, he maligned her character in the locality, she said. To take revenge, she created a fake ID on Instagram, morphed obscene, nude photos of him with his sister, and made inappropriate comments to defame their family. She created and deleted many other IDs. From these IDs, she also sent messages to her own Instagram ID to evade suspicion,” an officer said.
