GHAZIABAD: Four members of an interstate gang allegedly involved in stealing luxury cars across Delhi-NCR were arrested on Saturday. The gang, police said, sold the stolen vehicles to unsuspecting customers in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Haryana at a higher price.The four men – Wahid, Shaukeen, Rajesh Sharma and Mahabir Prasad – were arrested from Vijay Nagar by a team working to track down a Fortuner car that was stolen on February 18. “On Saturday, we got a tip-off about the movement of the accused in Vijay Nagar, following which police barriers and checks were set up in the area. The four men were nabbed with the stolen Fortuner and three other vehicles. They told cops that there are two more members in the gang. Together they would recce posh colonies of Delhi-NCR and steal luxury cars,” DCP (city) Nipun Agarwal said.The gang would change the registration plates before selling the vehicles in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana and Delhi, the officer said. “The gang was active in Ghaziabad from the last few months,” he added.ACP Anshu Jain told TOI that these stolen vehicles were mostly sold to people involved in drug trafficking and diamond smuggling. “It has been found that the gang members sold the cars to people who were part of a nexus of drugs and diamond smuggling in Rajasthan and Gujarat. We are trying to find out about their customers and teams have been formed to nab the two other members of the auto lifters gang,” Jain said.
