NEW DELHI: Intensifying work on infrastructure projects, the MCD commissioner has directed all 12 zonal commissioners to submit details of roads requiring construction and repairs on priority. The civic body has finalised 55 locations for installing waste-to-art pieces, including important markets and historical places. About 42 locations have been identified in five zones where new construction and repair work of public toilets and community toilet complexes will be carried out. These five zones include Karol Bagh, South, Central, Shahdara South and Sadar Paharganj where heavy footfall and tourists are expected to come during the summit, starting from September 2023. The civic body has also decided to install 1.2 lakh pots for beautification at various places in 12 zones. The road leading to Sunder Nursery, Tuglakabad Shooting Range, a parj near Qutab Minar, an internal market road in Lajpat Nagar, and internal market road in Greater Kailash-I, an internal market road in Greater Kailash-II and internal roads in South Extension market and Defence Colony Market will be taken up on priority.”New locations can also be added to the list as per the zonal requirements. The work is targeted to be completed before the G20 foreign ministers’ meet in March 2023. MCD commissioner Gyanesh Bharti has directed all officials concerned to ensure all public conveniences remain neat and clean,” said the official.”A meeting was also held on Wednesday headed by NDMC chairman Amit Yadav, who is also the chairman of the core coordination committee for the G20 preparations in Delhi. All arrangements are being made for the two important legs of the summit: the first in March and, the second, in September,” the official said.MCD has also identified locations to install water fountains. These include Qutub Park, PVR Saket, GK-II M Block Market, Bharat Darshan Park, Shaheedi Park ITO and Ajmal Khan Park, among others. “On priority, we are concentrating on markets and areas where the footfall is expected to be high. Most of these locations are in south and Luytens’ Delhi, but other popular areas like Old Delhi and parts of east Delhi will also get a facelift,” the official said. Besides improving greenery and road infrastructure, walkability, refurbishing signage, beautifying areas under flyovers, covering of drains and development of modern kiosks will also be taken up.
