NEW DELHI: The voice samples of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and his Man Friday Sampat Nehra were recorded at Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) in Delhi on Wednesday in connection with an ongoing investigation regarding their connection with the operatives of terrorist group Indian Mujahideen (IM).On November 12, TOI had reported that Delhi Police’s special cell had initiated a probe after it emerged that Bishnoi and IM operatives were found sharing phones in Tihar jail and that they had sought court nod to collect his voice samples.Bishnoi — alleged mastermind of the high-profile Sidhu Moose Wala murder case — was presently in the custody of Mohali Police in connection with a case of threats and extortion with a hotel owner. He and Nehra were brought to the laboratory amidst heavy security arrangements as he is considered a “very high-risk inmate”. The gangster-turned-“terrorist”— booked by the national investigation agency under stringent UAPA— has a history of fleeing from custody. His voice samples are to be matched with the calls intercepted by the police, which were made from the same number. Sources said that the special cell was probing if the IM operatives were acting as a conduit between ISI and Bishnoi. An intercepted call, which blew the lid off the phone sharing scam in Tihar jail, originated from a mobile number 9643640*** which was being used by an IM operative in jail number 8. The number was on lawful interception of Delhi Police since March 4 this year. However, the analysis of intercepted calls revealed that Bishnoi — lodged in the same jail — was also using the number to run his gang’s operations, coordinate with his Canada-based boss, Goldy brar, and order hits from jail.“Bishnoi’s aide, Bintu, contacted four mobile numbers on multiple occasions and the user of those numbers then arranged conference calls for Bishnoi to connect him and other gang members, including Brar, Nehra, Deepak Tinu and others,” said an officer. Both Bishnoi and Brar were suspected to be working for Khalistani terrorist Harvinder Singh alias Rinda Sandhu.
