DELHI: Manish Sisodia wrote a letter to LG VK Saxena on Sunday appealing to him to “fix the deteriorating law and order” of the city. “Delhi seems to have become the crime capital. There is no fear of law and order among criminals. The Constitution has given you the responsibility of maintaining law and order, and the Delhi Police reports directly to you. If you give a little time to keep a track on the working of police… it will help the common people,” the deputy chief minister wrote, mentioning some recent “heart-wrenching” murders. Manish Sisodia to LG VK Saxena: Several murders in city this monthDrawing LG’s attention towards the murder of a youth named Nitesh in west Delhi’s Shadipur area, Sisodia said the police were only giving assurances of appropriate action to the family. “Nitish was beaten to death by goons in broad daylight and they have been absconding since then. The police are only giving assurances of appropriate action to the family. It breaks my heart just thinking what the family must be going through at this time,” Sisodia said. “The way several murders have taken place one after the other in Delhi this month, it is heart-wrenching.” Sisodia also gave the reference of the brutal stabbing of 25-year-old Manish in Sunder Nagari last week, the killing of 17-year-old Shivam in Jehangirpuri on the day of Dussehra by goons to establish their dominance in the area, the gangrape of a minor on the Kendriya Vidyalaya campus in Delhi and the double murder in Bhalswa Dairy. The Delhi police report to the Union home ministry through the LG. As per the amended Government of NCT of Delhi Act, 2021, four sectors – land, law and order, police and services – in the Capital are directly under the purview of the lieutenant governor.
