NEW DELHI: Two meat suppliers in northeast Delhi have accused three policemen and four others, who claimed to be gau rakshaks, of beating them up and robbing them after an accident involving their car. The incident reportedly took place on March 7 in Anand Vihar though the alleged victims approached the cops only on March 10.Police have filed an FIR for extortion and assault and begun an investigation into the allegations. No arrests have been made yet. The three policemen who were accused have been suspended pending enquiry. The two injured men, Shoaib, 19, and Nawab, 21, are both residents of Mustafabad. Speaking to TOI, Shoaib said, “We had a wedding in the family and had gone to the Ghazipur slaughterhouse to purchase meat. We also have a meat supply business and often ferry meat in our car. We were in a Santro car and had reached the traffic signal near Vivek Niketan when our vehicle collided with a scooter.”A PCR vehicle reached the spot from nearby. “The scooter rider argued with us and demanded Rs 4,000. The cops intervened and took Rs 2,500 from me. They gave the scooter rider Rs 2,000 and returned the remaining money to me,” said Shoaib. The victims then claimed that the cops asked them to park the car by the side of the road and then demanded Rs 15,000. When the duo said they didn’t have money with them, the cops allegedly summoned four men to the spot. The victims claimed they were then taken in the police control room van to a nearby and shoved into a room. “The four men thrashed us, tried to cut our hands with a knife, urinated on our face and threatened us for being involved in cow slaughter,” alleged Shoaib. “The men then forcibly pulled out Rs 25,500 from my pocket and pocketed it. When we were beaten and in a bad state, one of the men called my father using my phone.”The scooter collision took place around 11.30am and the alleged victims maintained they were confined till 2.30pm.Preliminary police investigations have revealed that the three policemen, including an assistant sub-inspector, were indeed present at the site when the incident occurred. “The location of the PCR van and the police personnel matched the place named by the victims where the incident took place. Even footage obtained from cameras nearby showed the cops’ presence there,” disclosed a police officer.
