NEW DELHI: The chairmen of the 28 Delhi University colleges funded by the state government wrote to vice-chancellor Yogesh Singh on Thursday, objecting to the DU executive council taking up a letter from Delhi University Principals’ Association (DUPA) that had alleged harassment of some college principals by respective chairmen. The letter sent by the chairmen also claimed that the DUPA letter was “politically motivated”. DUPA had said that despite “due process of accounting being followed and all types of audits being done regularly”, fact-finding committees had been set up against a few principals. Stating that they are “pained to find that a representation of DUPA alleging harassment of some principals was taken up hurriedly, secretly and unilaterally”, the chairmen said, “While performing our duties, we are committed to the values of honesty, probity, integrity, transparency and inclusiveness as espoused by the current Delhi government. We respect EC as the impartial statutory body, which should not be dragged into political squabbles.” “Delhi government is meeting its financial liabilities… and whenever some issues come up, we readily take up with the authorities concerned… This frivolous, political and one-sided DUPA representation will adversely affect our reputations,” said the teachers’ body affiliated with Aam Aadmi Party while urging the VC to declare the EC proceedings infructuous. Anil Kumar Saini, GB chairman of Acharya Narendra Dev College, said, “There are no differences apart from a few colleges where we found that principals are creating issues. In the recent past, we wrote to the VC, but so far no discussion has happened. Why was the DUPA letter, some members of which are affiliated with certain parties and groups, taken up?” The VC told TOI, “If the issue pertains to principals and if they are having trouble, it is bound to come up in EC. However, even at the meeting, I maintained that we will discuss the issue and no decision was taken.”
