NEW DELHI: A 45-year-old transporter was arrested by police on Friday for falsifying a robbery report to obtain Rs 1 lakh from his employer. The individual, facing a financial crisis, had fabricated the crime in an attempt to keep the money for himself. Police have identified the accused as Nawal Kumar Jha, a resident of Budh Vihar in Rohini. Jha filed a complaint alleging that after delivering toys from a factory in Kanjhawala to a shop near Filmistan in his tempo, he was given Rs 1 lakh by the shop owner to deliver to his employer, according to police. He alleged that when he reached Old Rohtak Road, two bike-borne men wearing helmets intercepted him, assaulted him with a paper cutter and robbed Rs 1 lakh, according to the police. Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Sagar Singh Kalsi said on checking footage of CCTV cameras, it found that the complainant’s version was false as no motorcycle was found chasing the tempo as alleged by Jha. When Jha was confronted, he admitted to have hatched the conspiracy to pocket the amount due to financial crisis, police said. Jha disclosed that he resided in a rented accommodation for which he payed Rs 4,500 per month but had not paid his rent for the last four months. Jha also said he had to pay instalment of his vehicle insurance (Rs 4,500) and another instalment amount (Rs 6,462) for the loan taken from home credit, police said. “Jha’s transportation business was not in a good condition. Due to no- payment of these amounts, he was facing financial hardship in life. So, he hatched a conspiracy and faked a robbery and got the false FIR filed,” he said. Police said Rs 1 lakh in cash and the tempo owned by the accused have been recovered.(With inputs from PTI)
