File photoNEW DELHI: Taking major action against alleged corruption in the formulation and implementation of Delhi Excise Policy 2021-22, lieutenant governor VK Saxena on Saturday approved the suspension of nine officials. The LG initiated major disciplinary proceedings against IAS officer Arava Gopi Krishna and DANICS officer Anand Kumar Tiwari. Krishna, a 2012-batch AGMUT cadre IAS, was relieved from the Delhi government on July 12, 2022, and is currently posted in Diu. Tiwari is a 2003-batch DANICS officer and serves as deputy commissioner in the excise department. The decision was taken based on an inquiry conducted by the directorate of vigilance of the Delhi government, which found “irregularities in finalising the tender” and “extending post tender benefits to select vendors”. Both Krishna and Tiwari did not respond to the telephone calls and text messages. The LG had last month recommended a CBI probe into the formulation and implementation of Delhi Excuse Policy 2021-22 following a report of chief secretary Naresh Kumar where he alleged “deliberate and gross procedural lapses” to provide “undue benefits” to liquor licensees. The LG had also tasked the chief secretary to conduct an inquiry into the “role played by officers and civil servants” in its implementation. The LG has also suspended and ordered major disciplinary proceedings against three more Adhoc DANICS officers and four other officials of the excise department. While the ministry of home affairs is the competent authority to place IAS and DANICS officers under suspension, the chief secretary can take action against Ad-hoc DANICS and other excise department officials.
