NEW DELHI: A candidate declared unfit for recruitment by the Central Armed Police Forces, NIA and other forces for sporting a ‘religious tattoo’ on his right hand moved the Delhi HC against the decision of the authorities. The Centre opposed his plea, arguing one salutes with the right hand and hence the tattoo is not permissible under MHA. The petitioner then submitted he was willing to remove the tattoo by minor laser surgery. Noting that two medical tests showed the man had otherwise no “defect”, the HC disposed of the plea by giving him liberty to appear before a new medical board after removing the tattoo. ‘Petitioner can appear before medical board after tattoo removal’Keeping in view the aforesaid position as well as in the interest of justice, we hereby dispose of the present petition by giving liberty to the petitioner to appear before the freshly constituted medical board of the respondents after two weeks from today after having the tattoo in the dorsum of the right hand removed,” the Delhi HC said. “In case the petitioner is found fit, the respondents shall process the selection of petitioner for the post in question in accordance with the law,” a bench of justices said. The petitioner earlier submitted he was found unfit in the medical examination held on September 28 and thereafter, in review medical examination on September 29 for the post of constable in CAPF, NIA, SSF and Rifleman GD in Assam Rifles Examination, 2021 on the ground that he has a tattoo marks on the dorsum of the right hand which was not permissible.
