NEW DELHI: The Union home ministry has notified the finalised delimitation report after issuing an order on Monday, with key changes in the population of some municipal wards. With this, work on the delimitation of 250 wards of MCD, which came into existence after the amalgamation of corporations in April, has been completed. “The central government, after careful consideration of all aspects, hereby determines the extent of each of the 250 wards as comprised within MCD,” stated the notification. “The draft delimitation order was published on September 12 and put on the website of the State Election Commission for inviting suggestions/objections till October 3… These have been examined and the draft delimitation order for wards of MCD has been amended wherever required, feasible and justified on reasonable grounds,” said the notification. In the order, there are changes in the population distribution on municipal wards in comparison to the draft delimitation report. For instance, the population of Chandni Chowk ward has been increased from 35,509 in the draft report to 51,672 in the final order and Narela’s from 49,517 to 54,908 while Holambi Kalan’s population has reduced from 82,877 to 80,238. Alipur ward’s population has reduced from 77,279 to 74,449 while Burari’s has gone down from 82052 to 71,180. The central government had on July 8 constituted a delimitation committee, which had completed its exercise with regard to preparation of the draft order and submitted its report on August 25. Thereafter, it invited public objections before sending the updated report to the Centre. The notification order stated: “Though all efforts have been made to ensure correctness of the figures mentioned in this order, if any clerical error is discovered, the figures mentioned in Census 2011 data shall be considered as final.” Meanwhile, in a separate notification, the MHA also transferred the power to reserve the wards for women and SC candidates. Apart from making other administrative preparations, the SEC will now have to reserve the wards before announcing the polls.
