NEW DELHI: A video that went viral on social media on Friday showed a woman being molested and subjected to Holi colours by a bunch of youngsters even when she asks them not to. Police have now initiated a probe, having established through the landmarks seen in the video that it was shot in central Delhi’s Paharganj.The video was apparently tweeted by the woman and later deleted. Delhi Police has managed to trace the woman on Twitter and has reached out to her. On Friday evening, the woman tweeted, “I have just arrived in Bangladesh. I’m really sorry that I didn’t know it was a serious situation. I am fine in mind and body. I will explain more tomorrow (sic).”In the video, the boys are seen grabbing the woman and smearing her with Holi colours and one of them breaking an egg on her head. The woman can be heard saying ‘Nahi, nahi’ when the youngsters ignore her resistance.The cops have written to the Japanese embassy requesting help in establishing the identity of the girl and for any other information it might have about the incident. An email sent to the embassy by the station house officer of Paharganj said police had learnt the woman in the video was a Japanese tourist. The email said, “On the basis of the landmark, it has emerged that the video pertains to the jurisdiction of the Paharganj police station. We are making efforts to establish whether it’s an old or a new video. Further, if your good office is in receipt of any communication or complaint relating to the video/tweet shared here, please do share with us.”Sanjay Sain, DCP (Central), said, “We have taken cognisance of the video and the video is being analysed to ascertain the requisite details. No complaint or call relating to any kind of misbehaviour with any foreigner was received at Paharganj police station.”Sain said the area ACP and SHO have been asked to collect the details of the Japanese foreigner who stayed in the area and to establish the identity of the boys seen in the video through beat/division officers and local intelligence. “Once the incident and details are verified, action will be taken on merit,” said Sain.
